Oscar A. Cruz, MD

Dr. Oscar A. Cruz is the Anwar Shah Professor of Ophthalmology and Pediatrics at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital and Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He has served as Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Saint Louis University School of Medicine since 2000. Dr. Cruz served as President of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS) 2021-2022. He has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from AAPOS. His service to the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) includes serving on the AAO Council as the AAPOS Councilor. He has received the Senior Achievement Award from the AAO and the Distinguished Service Award. He served on the Board of the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology (AUPO) for eight years, serving as President in 2016. He is an active member of the Association for Research in Strabismus (Squint Club). Dr. Cruz has authored over 80 peer-reviewed journal publications, many with his residents as co-authors. He is extremely proud that 18 former Saint Louis University Ophthalmology residents are current active members of AAPOS. Oscar is a life-time runner and triathlete. He and his wife, Mary, enjoy their three adult children and two grandchildren.
