Embarking On A Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus

Eye problems presenting in childhood should be corrected as early as possible. Without timely care, children may face lifelong challenges like permanent vision loss, eye muscle disorders, or even legal blindness. Pediatric ophthalmologists are uniquely trained to safeguard a child’s visual development. Therefore, the quality of their training is critical.

That’s why the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, together with the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology Fellowship Compliance Committee (AUPO FCC), is committed to ensuring that every future specialist completes a rigorous, post-residency fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. These fellowships provide the advanced expertise needed to care for children’s eyes and treat complex eye muscle conditions in both children and adults. Through this focused and intensive training, AAPOS ensures that all future members are properly trained in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus by satisfactorily completing an appropriate post-residency fellowship training program.
