Background and Path to Medicine
Dr. Michael Langue was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended Penn State University, where he developed a deep connection to the Penn State community and culture. His passion for medicine, combined with his strong ties to Penn State, inspired him to continue his training at Penn State College of Medicine and complete his residency in Hershey, Pennsylvania, affectionately known as “the sweetest place on earth.”
Path to Pediatric Ophthalmology
Coming from a family of teachers and coaches, and having worked as a swim coach himself, Dr. Langue realized early on that caring for children was a natural fit. His interest in pediatric ophthalmology was also influenced by a family member who practiced in the specialty, but it was during medical school that his passion for the field truly solidified.
During his third year of medical school, Dr. Langue witnessed the life-changing impact of strabismus surgery on a self-conscious 14-year-old patient struggling with double vision. Seeing the dramatic improvement in the patient’s confidence and quality of life became a defining moment in his career path.
“Seeing how profoundly surgery could improve a patient’s confidence and everyday life made me realize this was exactly what I wanted to do.”
Practicing Pediatric Ophthalmology
Today, Dr. Langue is co-owner of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Associates in Rhode Island, where he cares for children and families throughout Rhode Island, Southern Massachusetts, and Eastern Connecticut. He says one of the comments he hears most often from patients and families is that he genuinely seems to love what he does.
“Finding your passion makes all the difference, and this field is incredibly rewarding because of the meaningful impact we can have on patients’ lives.”
While caring for children remains his greatest passion, Dr. Langue also finds treating adults with double vision and strabismus to be both intellectually stimulating and personally fulfilling. Helping patients regain comfortable vision and improve their quality of life is one of the most rewarding aspects of his work.
“There is nothing better than hearing from a patient whose life has been positively changed through treatment.”
Why Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus
For Dr. Langue, pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus care offer the perfect combination of meaningful patient relationships, surgical problem-solving, and long-term impact. He also values the opportunity to build a supportive practice culture for both patients and staff. As a private practice owner, he believes creating an environment where people feel valued is essential to delivering exceptional care.
The specialty continues to inspire him because of its unique ability to restore confidence, improve quality of life, and make a lasting difference for patients of all ages.
